Sparking an interest in apprenticeships

In the biggest apprenticeship recruitment event in recent years, people of all ages attended the City Library on April 27 to find out more about the opportunities at both organisations.

Such was the interest, that people began queuing well before the doors opened.

Attendees had the chance to speak to recruiting managers about the roles and find out more about if an apprenticeship is right for them, being supported to fill in their application on the day if needed.

Among those showcasing their apprenticeships were Repairs and Construction, Highways, Gardening, Warehousing, Business Admin, Early Years and Customer Service.

Rachel Wilkinson, Employability Programme Manager at YHN, said: "It was great to see so many people attend the event at the City Library and show an interest in the potential career paths for them.

“There was so much interest in all the apprenticeships with staff on hand to help attendees through the application process as well as outline the vacancies and what is required of them.

“There is still time for anyone interested in an apprenticeship to get in touch, the deadline for apprenticeships at YHN is May 8. If anyone has any questions, they can contact the Employability Team or pop in to the Skills Hub at the Library.”

Parents, carers and potential apprentices were also given advice and information about an apprenticeship.

It was the first event to take place since a new city-wide employment partnership was launched in March, with the aim of providing an improved and more co-ordinated approach for people looking for work and apprenticeships.
