Be safe. Be aware. Stay alive this autumn.

Now that we've waved goodbye to the warm summer months we are welcoming back the crisp, chillier autumnal and winter seasons.

During this time we remember, mark and celebrate different occasions including Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali, and of course the countdown towards Christmas.

These events are a chance for local communities to come together and have fun but please remember to stay safe and be responsible, especially when attending firework displays and parties when you could come in contact with fireworks and exposed flames.

  • Costumes, clothing and party decorations can be highly flammable so take care when using them.

  • Always buy costumes and fireworks from fully licensed and reputable sellers and be aware that there are many counterfeit and illegal products sold on the internet that could have fatal consequences.

  • Attend a licensed bonfire and fireworks display being organised in your local community.

Candle safety in your home

In your home having a lit or scented candle can look beautiful but can have serious consequences.

  • Always keep candles away from flammable objects.
  • Make sure tealights sit in protective holders
  • When you go out to bed make sure all candles are fully out.

Alternatively why not use the plastic battery operated LED lights that don't pose any fire risk?

Stop opportunists

Bring your bins in as soon as possible on your collection day to stop opportunists who may try to start a fire by setting your bin alight.

Respect our emergency services

Year upon year our emergency services experience abuse from a small minority of people who senselessly throw objects at and abuse the very people who are there to keep them safe from harm. Please respect our emergency services and help to keep them safe.
