Job fair hailed a major success as more than 1,300 people attend

More than 1,300 people attended one of the region’s largest jobs fair, organised by Your Homes Newcastle, Newcastle City Council and Job Centre Plus.

Held at Newcastle’s Civic Centre, there were more than 70 employers and training providers showcasing the range of opportunities they had.

Among those organisations attending were YHN, Newcastle City Council, NHS, armed forces, Amazon, McDonald’s, with roles on offer in construction, retail, hospitality, finance, health and care, and more.

There was a chance for people to speak directly to employers about the different roles and skills, experience and educational backgrounds needed for both full or part-time work or apprenticeships.

Rachel Taylor, acting group managing director at YHN, said “It’s a great event. It was lovely to see so many people attending to find out what the opportunities are across the city.

“It’s also wonderful to see so many employers we’ve got. There’s lot of different diversity of organisations and types of jobs and from Your Homes Newcastle’s perspective it’s been a great success.

“There has been a lot of hard work gone into organising this and delivering it and our Employability service can help those people who just need that little bit extra to get back into work or find a different type of career but not only help them find that but support them as well.

“We’ve also got other opportunities within Your Homes Newcastle which we were promoting, definitely a lot of work going in to promote our roles and a lot of information being provided.”

Further opportunities will be on offer at four recruitment roadshows that the council and YHN will be running across the city in the next few weeks.
