A Day of Action in the West End

A Day of Action in the West End

Our Safe Living team have been out in our communities in the West End of the city tackling some ASB issues. They were joined by Castles and Coast (who have residents in the same area) Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire Service.

The purpose of the day was to tackle the issues in the communities by having a proactive approach, trying to engage those involved in the negative behaviour and enforcing the message that we do not tolerate ASB.

We worked with families in the area to tackle these issues, and with the help of our partners, collected evidence to give out ASB orders.

Natalie Favell, Senior Safe Living Manager at Your Homes Newcastle, said: “We want to make our communities safe for our customers. Our Day of Action was set up to help tackle any problems that we knew was causing problems in the neighbourhood.

“We’d like to thank all the partners who joined us today, it was a great team effort! We hope to take part in more Days of Action in the upcoming months.”

Ian Stewart, Service Delivery Station Manager for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We have been working closely with Northumbria Police and Your Homes Newcastle to identify individuals responsible for anti-social behaviour in the west end of the city.

“As part of a Day of Action we provided partners with bodycam footage showing the behaviour in progress. This was used as evidence in securing the ASB orders.

“It also sends out a key message to say that it is not acceptable for people of any age to verbally or physically abuse any member of the emergency services who are there to ultimately keep the community safe from harm.”

We aim to reduce anti-social behaviour on our estates by:

  • Investigating anti-social behaviour (ASB) and breaches of tenancy
  • Protecting customers who are categorised as being at high risk
  • Working with other agencies to share information and take action where appropriate
  • Having clear procedures to deal with people who cause problems for others.
