Housing Review

Housing Review

A message from Tina Drury, YHN Group Managing Director

You may already be aware that Newcastle City Council has been carrying out a Housing Review over the last 9 months or so.  The reason for the review was to give the Council an opportunity to understand the current delivery structure of all housing services to ensure that all the needs of residents across the city were being met.

As YHN is an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) founded to manage council homes, leasehold properties and a range of support services on behalf of Newcastle City Council, we have had some involvement in that review.

The review identified a number of recommendations and options for the future delivery of housing services, which will be presented at the Council’s Cabinet meeting on 24 July, where Cabinet Members will be asked to approve their preferred option.  One of the options included in the report involves the Council taking over the management of council homes currently managed by YHN.  If this option is agreed by Cabinet on 24 July then the Council will consult with tenants on this option before any changes are made.

Whilst I can’t give any updates on the decision at this stage, what I can say is that our customers and communities are really at the heart of everything that we do here at YHN and our service and support to you will not be affected.

Once a decision is reached on 24July, the Council will communicate the outcome with its tenants and will advise of any next steps.
