Joining forces in Walker to keep communities safe

Joining forces in Walker to keep communities safe

Staff from our Building Safety, Customer Insight and Engagement, Safe Living and Operations teams met up with colleagues from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and Northumbria Police to hold a day of action at the multi-storey blocks on Greenford Road in Walker last week.

The event was a chance for YHN and our partners to speak to customers about the work we do to keep communities safe and encourage people to ask questions and raise issues with us.

Our Building Safety and Customer Insight and Engagement teams joined up with the fire service’s Prevention and Education team to knock on doors together and offer safe and well checks to make sure residents are aware of the safety features in their homes and what they should do if there’s an emergency in their building.

At the same time, Safe Living and the police carried out targeted anti-social behaviour (ASB) prevention work, providing updates on ASB cases and offering advice and support to customers worried about crime and ASB in the area.

Last but not least, our Operations team were in the area keeping everything clean and tidy and a representative from NCC’s Empowering People in Communities (EPiC) project was on hand to talk to customers about activities and support available locally.

These days of action are a fantastic opportunity for us to develop our relationships with our partners, raise awareness of our work and take action about issues that are affecting our customers. Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak to us.
